About Raffles Winds
Raffles Winds, or RWinds for short, is a symphonic wind orchestra comprising alumni and staff from the 3 Raffles schools -- namely Raffles Girls' School (RGS), Raffles Institution (RI), and then Raffles Junior College (RJC) now known as RI (Junior College). Till date, Raffles Winds has had more than 300 players participate in various performances over the years. Raffles Winds continues to bring Rafflesians closer even after they have graduated and helps each graduating batch of students bond with their seniors and fellow alumni, and even former staff of the Raffles schools. Apart from the regular "Coda" concert series, Raffles Winds also frequently participates in various school and alumni-related events such as, guest-playing for the Raffles school bands' concerts, performing for fundraising events, as well as participating and co-organising alumni-student interaction events.
History
Raffles Winds was first started in 2001 by a group of friends who had just graduated from RJC and wanted to relish their happy days in the school band by continuing to make music together. In 2002, Raffles Winds held its first public performance at an annual fundraising dinner by the Old Rafflesians Association (ORA). This was met with much positivity and Raffles Winds went on to guest play for various concerts by the RI Military Band (RIMB), and then-RJC Symphonic Band (RJCSB), now known as Raffles Symphonic Band (RSB). And in 2005, Raffles Winds held its first ever full concert, "Coda I" at the Victoria Concert Hall. This was the start of many more successful concerts, and in 2015 Raffles Winds celebrated its tenth installment of its "Coda" series of concerts!
